AI innovation for the climate era.

Earth AI brings together talented AI devs and climate experts to build deployable products. We do this through hackathons and community.

        Hackathons: London. Nairobi. Mbarara. Delhi.

        What we know...

Our climate and natural world are facing irreversible break down.

It’s getting cheaper to conserve and regenerate, make clean energy, build climate & nature friendly solutions than it is to pollute and kill.

AI tools are now freely available to build solutions.

How can the most disruptive technology be applied to solve the planet’s biggest problems, at speed and scale?

        What happened at EarthAI 1?

Over two days, 80 participants came up with 20+ ideas and were then grouped organically into a dozen teams.

Fuelled by pizza and supported by mentors, both IRL and online, the teams spent all Friday evening and Saturday building their climate solutions. Less than 24 hours after they’d first met, the teams presented their AI-powered climate solutions to the judges. To say that we were impressed with the outcome of this little experiment is an understatement.

🥁 The top three solutions were:

        Irrigation AI 🏆
Winner: Best use of AI to tackle Climate
An integrated AI model that evaluates numerous meteorological, soil and plant visibility parameters to ensure the adequate nourishment of crops in line with the most efficient use of water.

        Cli-move 🏆
        Winner: People’s Choice
Agent-based modelling merges population migration datasets with climate risk datasets to reduce the uncertainty surrounding climate migration and associated economic risks.

        Crop Uncle 🏆
        Winner: High Impact
A voice recognition and translation hotline that increases climate resilience among small-scale farmers responsible for feeding 70% of the world, most of whom lack adequate climate support, especially underfunded female farmers.

Can AI fix the climate & nature crisis?

We're in no position to answer this question with any authority. But…

from our first hackathon the following is clear:

        1. Smart, creative, compassionate people are motivated to work transformative solutions to our biggest challenges.

        2. With the right expertise and tools, AI solutions can be rapidly created, presenting compelling proofs of concept. This demonstrates AI’s potential to provide immediate answers and strategies, especially when time is of the essence in combating climate challenges.

        3. The hackathon format is as good as any short event/workshop/bootcamp I’ve seen to learn fast, build new teams and create something that might just be the start of everything.

How we are facilitating early stage climate innovation

        Earth AI x Heat Geek

The challenge: With only 0.19% of UK homes currently using heat pumps, there's an urgent need to increase this to 10% by 2030 to meet decarbonisation goals. Heat Geek partnered with Earth AI to organise a hackathon addressing this challenge. Over the course of the weekend, 30 attendees formed into five teams who created and built solutions addressing different aspects of the challenge. Full case study here.

        Earth AI Meet + Make

To test the potential of rapid collaboration powered by AI-driven tooling, specifically to address the challenges around the energy transition, 75 participants signed up to spend an evening designing hypothetical solutions, with one team even producing a working prototype. Full case study here.
